Keith Karns is an Alaskan born trumpet player, composer and bandleader. Keith’s quartet and big band are an up and coming presence across the Midwest and its members are some of the most talented young musicians in the country. Keith has been recognized as a trumpeter and composer as a finalist in the 2007 National Trumpet Competition, 2010 OWL Studios Emerging Jazz Artist Competition, and the 2012 New York First Music Competition. Keith’s music is constantly gaining ground in music circles and has been featured on Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Indiana Public Radio. Many of Keith’s compositions for Jazz Ensemble are available through RGM INC.

Keith holds degrees from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire and Indiana University. Keith is a student of John Harbaugh, Robert Baca, and David Baker. Keith has also studied with Bill Adam, Pat Harbison, Joey Tartell and Mike Steinel. Keith currently lives in the Dallas Ft. Worth Metroplex and is a Teaching Fellow in the Division of Jazz Studies at the University of North Texas, and plays in the One O’Clock Lab Band.
