Ally Hany

Ally Hany is a professional trumpet player, arranger, composer, and educator based out of New York City. Originally from St. Louis, MO, Ally was lucky enough to have had a very musically rich upbringing. The city boasted, and still does today, great programs like the Jazz St. Louis All-Stars and the St. Louis Youth Symphony Orchestra, which gave Ally an opportunity to network with some of the top professional musicians in the business. Ally was also named a Grammy band finalist as well as a member of the Telluride Jazz Festival All Stars, where she performed alongside Tower of Power, John Clayton, and Paquito D’Rivera.

Ally received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas, where she studied trumpet with Jay Saunders, John Holt, Rodney Booth, and Mike Steinel. While at UNT, she performed, toured and recorded with the six time Grammy nominated One O’Clock Lab Band. While in the One O’Clock, she shared the stage with artists like Billy Hart, Billy Harper, Cecil McBee, Walt Weiskopf, Darcy James Argue, Ryan Truesdell, Deana Martin, and many more. Ally is featured on the One O’Clock’s recording Lab 14, as well as the Two O’Clock Lab Band downbeat award winning recordings Two’s Two and Kind of Two.

During her undergraduate studies, Ally was named as a semi-finalist in the jazz division of the National Trumpet competition in both 2012 and 2014. In 2014, she was also named the Outstanding Undergraduate Student in Jazz Studies at UNT. While in Dallas, Ally was an integral part of the music scene, traveling and performing with several Dallas based bands to eight states in the South and Midwest, as well as to Mexico.

As an educator, Ally is on faculty at the Jim Widner Jazz Camp and the Birch Creek Music Performance Center. She also has her own private studio, which includes online video lessons. Also in demand as a clinician, Ally has presented masterclasses at several schools, including Webster Groves High School and Crowley High School.

Ally is excited to announce the completion of her debut album, Journey’s Ahead, which is set to be released in early November. It features all original compositions and arrangements, as well as a stellar band of up and coming musicians. Information about the CD release and tour will continue to be updated in the ‘News’ tab. This fall, Ally will start her graduate studies at the Manhattan School of Music, where she will study with Tony Kadleck.
