Kyle Millsap enjoys a varied and diverse career as a performer, educator, and arranger. His performances span orchestral, chamber, and jazz/commercial idioms, including opportunities to perform on recitals and concerts in England, Germany, and Mexico, in addition to the United States.
Dr. Millsap’s performance experience features performances with such artists as The Temptations, Mannheim Steamroller, Johnny Mathis, Al Kapone, the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, Jon Mayer, Rufus Reid, Kirk Whalum, and performing at halftime for the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies. He has performed with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra (TN), Orquesta Sinfonica UANL (Monterrey, Mexico), Wichita Symphony Orchestra (KS), Eroica Ensemble (TN), Corinth Symphony Orchestra (MS), Memphis Brass Quintet, and productions with Ballet Memphis. Additionally, he has been a member of the Jazz Orchestra of the Delta and the Memphis Jazz Orchestra. Comfortable on stage or in an orchestra pit, Dr. Millsap has performed for nearly a dozen national touring company productions, including The Addams Family, Anything Goes, Chicago, Dreamgirls, High School Musical, South Pacific, and Young Frankenstein. He has also performed for several regional theater premieres, such as The Drowsy Chaperone, Hairspray, Jerry Springer: The Opera, Legally Blonde: The Musical, The Producers, and The Wild Party.
Dr. Millsap is currently Assistant Professor of Trumpet at Texas A&M University-Kingsville and principal trumpet in the Kingsville Brass Quintet, the professional brass ensemble in residence at TAMUK. He has published articles in the International Trumpet Guild Journal and arrangements for trumpet ensemble with Triplo Press. Previously, has served on the faculties of The University of Memphis and Murray State University and taught at the Memphis Brass Festival and Sounds of Summer Music Camp. Dr. Millsap has a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The University of Memphis with a minor in Conducting. He holds a Master of Music in Performance with related studies in Jazz from the University of North Texas and a Bachelor of Music in Performance from Wichita State University. His primary teachers in include David Spencer, John Holt, Judith Saxton, and Kevin Hartman.
